Welcome to ECOLE East ridge community school

East Ridge Community School is located on the east side of Owen Sound, near Georgian College.  Our school offers classes from JK to Grade 8 both in the English and French Immersion streams.

Throughout June, East Ridge will have the Pride flag raised as a symbol of our commitment to nurturing safe and inclusive schools where every community member is welcomed, valued and respected.

December 2023

Bonjour Tout le Monde! December is here! The snow seems to be returning and our playground shedding hill is back! Thank you to all our families for coming out to our Parent/Teacher interviews. Building strong connections between home and school is a crucial part of school success. We appreciate your time and partnership.

We continue to support our students to develop strong phonological awareness skills as the building blocks to develop strong readers. See this newsletter for some phonological awareness activities you can practice at home. Research shows that quick, constant practice is the best way to develop these skills. A few times each night for a few minutes is all that is needed. These skills are important for all students, especially for JK to grade 2, and any struggling reader.

Just a few inclement weather reminders: You are welcome to subscribe for texts to receive bus cancellation notifications. Go to: https://www.mybrucegreyschoolbus.ca/Cancellations.aspx and click on Subscribe at the top of the page. If you child walks and not attending on a bus cancellation day, please call the school and let us know. This is really important. You can leave a message on our voicemail or text anytime. For students who walk to school, I encourage families to review winter walking safety. On days when there has been a heavy nighttime snowfall, often sidewalks are not plowed. Please talk to your child about where to walk safely while avoiding walking on the road, especially on 8th Street. We will try to send messages on days the sidewalks are particularly bad to let you know.

Once again, I am very thankful to work in this community. Thank you for all you do to prepare your children for school and your support to our school.

I wish all our families a wonderful holiday season!

Ms. Morrow Sara Morrow, Principal
